Dr. Habib is an Egyptian-Americanwho was born in Texas and raised in Minnesota. She always knew she wanted to bea surgeon since the days pressed to the TV watching ER. She was always thefirst in her family to grab the first aid kit to lend a hand to anyone aroundher who was hurt. Awarded an American Heart Association Scholarship as a highschool graduate, she worked at the Experimental Surgical Services lab at theUniversity of Minnesota where she assisted on open heart surgeries for FDA approvalon heart devices while in undergrad. She was inspired to become a Cleft andCraniofacial Surgeon after she saw the impact reconstructive facial surgery hadon the lives of children and adults treated with complex congenital defects atthe OMFS department at the University of Minnesota. She loves that Oral &Maxillofacial Surgery combines dentistry, medicine, artistry, and engineeringand that she is able to work with her hands to improve the lives of herpatients. She utilizes open communication, complex 3D reconstruction, virtualsurgical planning and a multidisciplinary approach to the care of her patientsto optimize her outcomes.
Dr. Habib is excitedabout the broad scope of cases and surgeries that is already performed at AkesoSurgery. In addition to oralsurgery and dental implant rehabilitation, Dr. Habib specializes in thetreatment of children and adults with cleft and craniofacial conditions thatincludes: craniosynostosis, distraction osteogenesis, custom 3D implants forfacial reconstruction, corrective jaw surgery, benign head and neck tumors/cystsof the jaws and face, sleep surgery, non-surgical cosmetic facial rejuvenation,facial trauma and complex reconstruction of the face.
Education & Residency
Dr.Habib earned her Bachelor of Science in Microbiology (BS) fromthe University of Minnesota, Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) fromthe University of Minnesota School of Dentistry and her Doctor of Medicine(MD) from University of Maryland Medical School and graduated with honors. Shecompleted an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery residency training program at theUniversity of Maryland Medical Center/Shock Trauma where she also completed aone-year General Surgery residency. Her rigorous residency gave her experiencesin a wide variety of specialities including extensive facial trauma reconstruction,Pediatric craniofacial surgery, head & neck pathology, corrective jawsurgery and critical care management.
Dr.Habib completed her fellowship training in Pediatric Craniofacial Surgery at theUniversity of Florida, Jacksonville and Wolfson Children’s Hospital. Beforejoining Akeso Surgery, she worked in private practice in Maryland and as a full-timeassistant professor of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at LSU and the Universityof Pennsylvania. She working at UPenn, she also served veterans by serving asthe lead OMFS at the VA in Delaware. For the past few years, Dr. Habib has beenworking as a travel surgeon where she has been doing extensive facial traumareconstruction and international mission work. In addition to volunteeringdomestically in underserved areas, she has completed Craniofacial Surgical missiontrips to Greece (Syrian refugee camp), Vietnam, Mexico, Ecuador, Guatemala,India, Lebanon, Pakistan and Palestine to serve those in need.
Certifications
Dr.Habib is board-certified by the American Board of Oral & MaxillofacialSurgery (ABOMS), and acommittee member of the American Association of Oral & MaxillofacialSurgeons (AAOMS) and the AmericanCleft Palate-Craniofacial Association (ACPA). She is licensed to practice thespecialty in the state of Maryland. Dr Habib maintains certification in basiclife support (BLS), advanced cardiac life support (ACLS), and pediatricadvanced life support (PALS).
Hobbies & Interests
Dr.Habib enjoys outdoor adventures, rock climbing, biking, traveling (42 countriesand counting), cooking, reading, tennis, SCUBA diving, working out and partyplanning. Three fun facts: She is a master level SCUBA diver, speaksconversational Arabic because she is Egyptian-American and played saxophone forover 10 years. Born in TX, she is also a diehard Cowboys fan.
