‍Dr. Phillip McIver brings more than 20 years of experience in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery to Akeso Oral Surgery. Throughout his career, he has been dedicated to expanding access to high-quality surgical care, regularly serving patients in rural and underserved communities across North Carolina and Alabama. His commitment to service extends internationally through humanitarian efforts in Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and Brazil, where he has helped provide much-needed surgical care to populations with limited access to treatment.

Dr. McIver completed his undergraduate studies at Oakwood College in Huntsville, Alabama. He went on to earn his dental degree from the Loma Linda University School of Dentistry in Loma Linda, California, before completing his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency training and earning his certificate in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Columbia University at Harlem Hospital Center in New York City.

As a board-eligible Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, Dr. McIver has performed thousands of full-arch dental rehabilitation procedures, helping restore aesthetics, function, and confidence for patients facing complex dental and surgical challenges. His extensive experience has made him particularly skilled in managing advanced cases requiring comprehensive surgical solutions.

Dr. McIver enjoys performing a wide range of procedures, including dental implant placement, wisdom tooth extractions, bone grafting, and dentoalveolar surgery. He is especially recognized for his expertise in treating patients with severely atrophic maxillae and mandibles, often taking on cases that others may consider highly complex. His creativity and problem-solving abilities have earned him the affectionate nickname "The MacGyver of Oral Surgery." A former patient commemorated this reputation by gifting him a large framed paper clip, a tribute that still hangs proudly in his office today.

Outside of his professional life, Dr. McIver is devoted to his faith and family. He has been married to his high school sweetheart for more than 25 years and is the proud father of three children. An accomplished endurance athlete, he has completed more than five Ironman triathlons and continues to pursue his goal of qualifying for the legendary Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii. When time permits, he also looks forward to spending more time on the golf course.
