Dr. Ya-Sin A. Peaks, DMD, MD
Dr. Ya-Sin A. Peaks joins our practice as a native of Detroit, MI. Dr. Peaks attended the University of Michigan where he was a student-athlete on the Men’s Varsity track team. After earning his BS degree in nuclear physics, he was commissioned as an officer in the United States Marine Corps. He served as a combat officer in several campaigns in both the United States Marine Corps as well as the United States Army reserve as an Aviator for over 11years. It was during this time that he decided to pursue a career in medicine and surgery.
Along with his BS degree in physics, Dr. Peaks holds several advanced degrees including a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and an MBA from Boston University. Dr. Peaks earned his MD from the University of Alabama in 2011 and completed his intern year of General Surgery at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh PA. Dr. Peaks went on to complete a post-doctoral research fellowship under the mentorship of Dr. Brian Wong MD, Ph.D. at the University of California in Irvine, investigating pediatric subglottic stenosis. Dr. Peaks returned to the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he earned his DMD as well as Completed his Residency in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery.
Upon graduating from residency, Dr. Peaks served as the Staff Oral Surgeon with the Birmingham VA Medical center from 2020 until 2021.
In his leisurely time, Dr. Peaks is a recreational pilot, an avid runner, and considers himself a connoisseur of fine cheesecake.
